Now that the bigger kids are off to school you now have the opportunity to spend some quality time with your little one and IWASM would like to help you make the most of it! Every Wednesday the International Women’s Air & Space Museum will be offering “Small Scientists” classes. Fee is $3 per child/parent. Check the class list below for dates of specific classes.
“Here Comes the Airplane”: Ages 2-3
This program is designed to introduce your little one to the exciting world of aviation. Children will listen to a story about airplane travel, followed by games and hands-on activities that are designed specifically for younger children. Children will also meet and interact with the IWASM Kids Club mascot and resident aviatrix, Paige Penguin. (11am-12pm: February 8, 2012)To Register for this Class on-line click here.
Flying Fun: Ages 4-5
Kids LOVE airplanes and are naturally curious about these objects that fly over our heads everyday. Children will listen to a story about a toy airplane and his adventures flying around the world followed by an aviation-themed game. The program will be concluded with “Design your own Flight Goggles” craft and playtime in the Joan L. Hrubec Aviation Education Center’s Aviation Career Corner. Kids in the Cockpit: Ages 5-6
This program teaches your child about flying in an airplane. Children will listen to a story about traveling by plane followed by a game of “Air Traffic Controller Says.” The program will be concluded with making a paper airplane and playtime n the Joan L. Small Scientist: Little Astronauts (Space Theme)In Space Nobody Can Hear You Play: Ages 2-3
This program is designed to introduce your little one to the wonders of space. Children will listen to a story about traveling to the moon followed by games and hands-on activities that are designed specifically for younger children. Making Faces…On the Moon: Ages 4-5
The moon is one of the first objects in the night sky your child will recognize. Children will listen to the Japanese folklore about the Rabbit in the Moon and will identify shapes that they see on the moon’s surface. In theme with the story, children will be given a sample of mochi, the Japanese rice candy the rabbit on the moon is said to be making. The program will be concluded with a craft and playtime (complete with astronaut suits) in the Working and Living in Space exhibit. Lunar Landings: Ages 5-6
This program teaches your child about astronauts and the lunar landing. Children will listen to a story about an astronaut’s voyage to the moon and get to sample astronaut ice cream! The program will be concluded with a craft and playtime (complete with astronaut suits) in the Working and Living in Space exhibit.
