Richard DuRose, nephew of Mildred Doran, will present the story of his aunt who was attempting to become the first woman to fly from the west coast to Hawaii.
Participants had only 11 weeks to acquire a plane and gear and get ready for a transpacific journey of 2,400 miles. Mildred set her sights on setting a record. Tragically, she, and 6 others, never made it.
Growing up, Richard heard very little about the accident. After inheriting his mother’s papers and photos of Mildred he embarked on a journey of his own to learn about his missing aunt. Join us as he shares the story of Mildred.
Tickets are $15, $13 for IWASM Members (Proceeds to benefit IWASM, a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization)
Dinner will be served at 6:30 with
the program starting at 7pm.
